Sustainability Reporting – Update

The SDU’s new Sustainability Reporting Portal is online and ready for your 2017/18 reporting - and the Unit is seeking more people to start using the beta version of the portal and share their views.

Why is sustainability reporting important?

Excellent sustainability reporting is recognised as helping to demonstrate good use of resources, mitigating negative environmental impacts and maximising positive impact locally. The SDU has worked with DH and NHS Improvement to ensure that there is a consistent mandate across all health sector organisations to report on sustainability with the expectation to meet the criteria published by the SDU. 

Each year the SDU conducts an analysis of all provider and Clinical Commissioning Group (CCGs) annual reports to evaluate sustainability sections. Later in the new year the top organisations will receive a joint certificate from NHS Improvement, the Health Finance Managers Association (HFMA) and the Sustainable Development Unit. 

Last year forty trusts and forty CCGs (around 17%) were selected for recognition out of 450 organisations across England.

The Portal which is for both providers and CCGs, is an online version to replace the excel reporting template.

The site is co-located with the 'Your Carbon Cost Curve' resource - and users will be able to use the same login.

Once registered it will take up to 24hrs to process your account to your organisation - please use your NHS email address as this makes the process far quicker. 

The portal will reduce the burden of completing and submitting your annual carbon footprint and sustainability report. The website, much like the excel version of the process allows you to calculate your carbon missions and provides a template for your organisations annual sustainability reporting.

  • The portal will save all your data - so once entered you won’t have to repeat each year like in the spreadsheet
  • You can Import and edit your data from ERIC if you are a Provider 
  • The portal provides a full HM Treasury output and an SDU reporting template
  • You can both export the whole report to PDF or copy and paste out the specific elements you need for your report. 
  • The portal is ready for your 2017/18 reporting 

We want as many users to start using the portal to help us to continue to test the portal and also learn for your experiences; the SDU are keen to learn about how users are approaching and using the web portal so please do share your feedback via england.sdu@nhs.net. 

Please note the excel version for now will still be available alongside the new portal.
