We wholeheartedly support and promote all our actions to reduce our harmful environmental impact, whilst promoting our work on sustainable development, creating healthier and more sustainable conditions for the future.

Progress 2017 - Internal commitments

2.6% carbon reduction achieved. Reported quarterly Greening Government Commitments data to the DH. The role of the Internal Sustainability and Climate Change Programme Board is currently being reviewed.

Progress 2017 - Influence through remit

Contributing to Climate Change Risk Assessment and the National Adaptation Programme; as well as the Cross Whitehall Sustainable Development group. Ongoing public communications on climate change and sustainability issues. PHE are providing cross government support on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and are embedding where possible the UN SDGs in literature.

New internal  and influence through remit objectives

Continue to strengthen economic case for prevention at national and local levels. In STPs help NHS and local government deliver savings and prioritise activities with greatest impact on the public’s health, supporting value for money. Contribute to cross-government activity on addressing environmental factors posing risks to public health, including air pollution. Contributor to the DEFRA 25 year environment plan
